The Story Behind The Batch’s Bake: How Our Cookie Journey Began

In August 2022, I married my best friend, Bryson Batch, and together we started our new chapter in Austin, Texas.

While I was thrilled to begin this adventure, I quickly realized that I didn’t know many people in the area aside from his family. So, in an attempt to build new friendships, I turned to Bumble BFF, hoping to connect with others. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I thrive most off of organic interactions, and online friend-finding just wasn’t my thing.

With Bumble BFF out of the picture, I decided to dive into hobbies to discover what truly sparked my interest.

First, I picked up the guitar again (something I had dabbled in years before), but that didn’t stick. Then I tried pottery, and to my surprise, it was actually really fun! Unfortunately though, I couldn’t keep funding the hobby at the time. After that, I moved on to rock climbing and hiking, but I soon discovered that these activities were only fun for me if I had someone to do them with.

Luckily, I eventually made an organic friendship through work, and from time to time, we’d go hiking together. Those hikes were incredible, but the thought of hiking alone? Yeah, that’s a bit scary for me. (Maybe that’s something I’ll tackle in the future—after all, the new year is right around the corner!)

Back to the cookies!

In the midst of searching for hobbies I could enjoy on my own, one day Bryce requested that I bake him some chocolate chip cookies. At the time, the only butter we had in the fridge was vegan butter (I still don’t know why!), but I figured I’d give it a shot.

(Side note: our recipes have since evolved, and we’ve moved away from vegan butter. While the cookies were great fresh, the flavor didn’t hold up as well after a few days—lesson learned!)

To my surprise, those cookies turned out phenomenal. Bryce was thrilled, and honestly, he ate nearly the entire batch by himself! He was so impressed that he wouldn’t stop raving about them. He kept encouraging me to “share the cookies with the world” and start my own cookie business. He’s always been my biggest fan. Love you, Bryce.

What really struck me was the joy those cookies brought him. Seeing how happy something so simple made him, I thought, “Wouldn’t it be nice to bring that same happiness to others?” So, I started baking more and more, and before I knew it, I realized, “Hey, I actually like this!”

It wasn’t long before we decided to turn this newfound passion into something bigger.

One evening, Bryson and I sat around brainstorming potential business names. We knew we wanted to incorporate our last name into it (wink, wink), but weren’t sure how to make it unique. After throwing around a bunch of ideas, The Batch’s Bake finally came to us, and it just clicked.

We loved it immediately!

With a name and a vision, it was time to take the leap. I signed up for my first farmers market—what a nerve-wracking experience that was! I was a wreck, but I did it, and to my surprise, it was a great success. (More on that story to come!)

Looking back, it’s amazing to see how far we’ve come. What started as a simple request for chocolate chip cookies has blossomed into a journey I never could have imagined. I’m so grateful Bryson had that craving one fall day in September.

Here at The Batch’s Bake, we’ve come a long way from that first batch of cookies. From super thin and sort of crispy (depicted in photo) to soft and gourmet.

I can’t wait to see where this adventure takes us next!
